P006B

MAP - Exhaust Pressure Correlation

Air & pressure sensors Generic OBD-II High

What it means

P006B means the ECM found that the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor reading and the exhaust pressure reading don't agree the way they should. The computer cross-checks these signals to manage boost and, on diesels, EGR and exhaust after-treatment. When they disagree, it can't trust the data, so it often drops the engine into reduced-power mode until the mismatch is resolved.

High

Can I keep driving? Limited β€” the engine may drop into reduced-power (limp) mode and run rough. It's usually still drivable, but get it diagnosed promptly, especially on a diesel.

Common symptoms

What you'll notice

Common causes

Most likely first

  1. Faulty exhaust (back-pressure / DPF) pressure sensor
  2. Faulty or contaminated MAP sensor
  3. EGR system stuck, clogged, or leaking, throwing off the expected pressure relationship
  4. Intake or exhaust leaks changing measured pressures
  5. Wiring or connector faults on either pressure sensor

How to diagnose & fix

Work through it in order

  1. Read freeze-frame data and compare live MAP and exhaust-pressure readings against each other at idle and under load.
  2. Inspect both sensors and their connectors for contamination, damage, or corrosion.
  3. Check for intake and exhaust leaks and, on diesels, EGR and DPF restriction.
  4. Test each sensor's signal against spec to identify which one is out of range.
  5. Repair wiring or replace the confirmed faulty sensor, then clear and road-test.

FAQ

Quick answers

Is it safe to drive with P006B?+
Short trips to a shop are usually fine, but the engine may be in limp mode with reduced power. Prolonged driving risks poor running and, on diesels, EGR/DPF issues β€” diagnose it soon.
Can I just clear P006B?+
It returns once the ECM re-compares the two pressure signals. The sensor, EGR, or leak causing the mismatch has to be fixed for it to stay off.
