What it means
P2471 means the ECM sees an abnormally high voltage from the exhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensor at bank 1, sensor 4, which usually points to an open circuit or a short to power. These sensors monitor exhaust heat to protect the turbo and particulate filter and to control regeneration on diesels. The car generally still drives, but the ECM can no longer trust that sensor.
