P2114
Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor C Minimum Stop Performance
Fuel & air metering
Generic OBD-II
Medium
What it means
P2114 means the ECM could not verify the throttle's closed (minimum) stop position from the 'C' throttle position sensor β the reading is out of its expected range. Because the computer relies on this to know where "closed throttle" is, it often puts the car into a reduced-power limp mode. A dirty throttle bore, a failing sensor, or wiring trouble are the usual culprits.
Medium
Can I keep driving? Usually drivable but the car often drops into a reduced-power limp mode β get it looked at soon, as acceleration may be limited.
Common symptoms
What you'll notice
- Check-engine light on
- Reduced power / limp (fail-safe) mode
- Hesitation or sluggish throttle response
- Rough or unstable idle
Common causes
Most likely first
- Faulty throttle position sensor (the 'C' element)Likely
- Dirty or carbon-filled throttle bore preventing a clean closed-throttle readingCommon
- Open, shorted, or chafed sensor wiringCommon
- Poor connection or corrosion at the sensor connectorLess often
- Faulty engine/powertrain control module (rare)Less often
How to diagnose & fix
Work through it in order
- Read freeze-frame data and inspect the throttle body and sensor connector first.
- Clean the throttle bore/plate β carbon buildup is a common cause of a bad minimum-stop reading.
- Check the connector for a steady ~5 V reference and a clean ground, key on/engine off.
- Inspect the harness for open/short between sensor and PCM; repair as needed.
- If wiring and throttle body are good, replace the throttle position sensor / throttle body and relearn idle.
FAQ
Quick answers
Is it safe to drive with P2114?+
Short trips are usually fine, but the car may limit power in limp mode, so avoid situations needing quick acceleration until it's fixed.
Can I just clear P2114?+
It clears, but it returns once the throttle relearns its stops unless the dirty throttle body, sensor, or wiring is actually repaired.
