P06A7

Sensor Reference Voltage B Circuit Range/Performance

Sensor reference voltage Generic OBD-II High

What it means

P06A7 means the ECM's regulated reference-voltage B circuit (commonly the 5-volt supply shared by several sensors) is reading outside its expected range. Because many sensors depend on that reference, a fault here often sets multiple sensor codes and can make the engine run poorly or enter limp mode until the shorted circuit or sensor is found.

High

Can I keep driving? Often driveable, but expect a check-engine light and possibly rough running or limp mode, since several sensors may lose a stable reference voltage.

Common symptoms

What you'll notice

Common causes

Most likely first

  1. Short to voltage or ground on the 5-volt reference B circuit
  2. A shorted or failing sensor pulling the shared reference off value
  3. High-resistance, corroded, or loose connections on the reference circuit
  4. Faulty ECM/PCM (least likely)

How to diagnose & fix

Work through it in order

  1. Scan for companion sensor codes that share the reference B circuit.
  2. Inspect the reference wiring and connectors for shorts, opens, and corrosion.
  3. Disconnect sensors one at a time to find one that is dragging the reference voltage off value.
  4. Back-probe the reference at the ECM and compare against the sensors.
  5. If wiring and sensors are good, evaluate the ECM/PCM.

FAQ

Quick answers

Is it safe to drive with P06A7?+
Often short trips are okay, but because several sensors share this reference the engine may run poorly or drop into limp mode. Get it diagnosed soon.
Can I just clear P06A7?+
You can, but if a sensor or wire is shorting the reference it returns quickly, usually with other sensor codes; find the short instead.
