P0293

Cylinder 11 Contribution/Balance

Fuel injectors / cylinder balance Generic OBD-II High

What it means

P0293 means cylinder 11 isn't contributing its share of power — the ECM measures uneven crankshaft acceleration between cylinders and flags cylinder 11 as weak. The cause is usually a restricted or weak injector, but low compression or a fuel-delivery problem on that cylinder can also be behind it.

High

Can I keep driving? Driveable short-term, but cylinder 11 misfiring can damage the converter over time; fix it soon.

Common symptoms

What you'll notice

Common causes

Most likely first

  1. Restricted, weak, or failing cylinder 11 injector
  2. Low fuel pressure or a clogged fuel filter starving the cylinder
  3. Low compression on cylinder 11 (valve or ring wear)
  4. Wiring or connector fault on the cylinder 11 injector

How to diagnose & fix

Work through it in order

  1. Read freeze-frame and check for companion misfire or injector codes on cylinder 11.
  2. Compare injector flow/resistance or perform an injector-balance test.
  3. Check fuel pressure and filter condition.
  4. Run a compression test on cylinder 11 if injector and fuel checks are good.
  5. Repair or replace the weak component, then clear and re-test.

FAQ

Quick answers

Is it safe to drive with P0293?+
A weak cylinder misfires and can damage the catalytic converter over time. It's driveable short-term, but repair it soon.
Can I just clear P0293?+
