P0208

Cylinder 8 Injector A Circuit

Fuel injector circuit Generic OBD-II High

What it means

P0208 means the computer detected a fault in the electrical circuit that fires the cylinder 8 fuel injector. When that circuit fails the injector often stops firing, so cylinder 8 misfires and the engine runs rough and down on power. Because sustained misfires can damage the catalytic converter, it's worth fixing quickly — usually a failed injector or its wiring.

High

Can I keep driving? Drive as little as possible — an injector circuit fault usually means cylinder 8 isn't firing, causing a misfire that can overheat and damage the catalytic converter.

Common symptoms

What you'll notice

Common causes

Most likely first

  1. Failed injector for cylinder 8 (open or shorted coil)
  2. Open, shorted, or chafed wiring in the cylinder 8 injector circuit
  3. Corroded or loose injector connector
  4. Poor injector driver ground or supply
  5. Rarely, an ECM/PCM injector-driver fault

How to diagnose & fix

Work through it in order

  1. Read freeze-frame data and confirm the misfire is on cylinder 8.
  2. Inspect the cylinder 8 injector connector and wiring for damage, corrosion, or a loose fit.
  3. Measure the injector's resistance against spec and compare with the other injectors.
  4. Check for injector-drive signal and proper power/ground at the connector.
  5. Replace the injector if it's open or shorted and the wiring is good. Clear and re-test.

FAQ

Quick answers

Is it safe to drive with P0208?+
Not for long. A dead injector means cylinder 8 misfires, and sustained misfires can quickly overheat and destroy the catalytic converter. Repair it before driving much further.
Can I just clear P0208?+
It returns within a drive cycle or two while the injector or its circuit is faulty. This is a wiring/component fault, so it needs a real repair, not just a reset.
