P0200
Injector Circuit/Open
Fuel injector circuit
Generic OBD-II
High
What it means
P0200 means the engine computer has detected an electrical fault β usually an open circuit β in a fuel injector's control wiring. If the injector can't fire, that cylinder gets no fuel, so the engine misfires, idles rough, and loses power. Because a dead cylinder dumps unburned fuel into the exhaust, this code should be fixed before the catalytic converter is damaged.
High
Can I keep driving? Drive as little as possible β an open injector circuit can kill a cylinder, causing a misfire that can overheat the catalytic converter.
Common symptoms
What you'll notice
- Check-engine light on (may flash if a cylinder is dead)
- Misfire, rough idle, or stalling
- Reduced power and hesitation
- Hard starting
- Fuel smell or poor economy in some cases
Common causes
Most likely first
- Open or damaged injector wiring or connectorLikely
- Failed fuel injectorCommon
- Loose or corroded electrical connectionCommon
- Failed injector driver in the ECM (rare)Less often
How to diagnose & fix
Work through it in order
- Read freeze-frame data and any cylinder-specific injector codes to find the affected circuit.
- Inspect the injector connector and wiring for opens, damage, or corrosion.
- Measure the injector's resistance and compare it to spec.
- Check for the injector control (driver) signal from the ECM.
- Replace the faulty injector or repair the wiring; suspect the ECM last.
FAQ
Quick answers
Is it safe to drive with P0200?+
No β an open injector circuit can leave a cylinder dead, and the resulting raw fuel and misfire can quickly damage the catalytic converter. Repair it before extended driving.
Can I just clear P0200?+
It will return immediately if the injector or its wiring is still open, since the computer tests the circuit every time it runs.
