P010A

Mass or Volume Air Flow Sensor B Circuit

Fuel & air metering Generic OBD-II High

What it means

P010A means the ECM has detected a fault in the circuit for the "B" mass air flow sensor β€” the sensor that measures how much air is entering the engine so fueling can be matched to it. When the MAF signal is wrong, fueling goes off and the engine can stall, hesitate, or drop into limp mode. A dirty sensor or an intake air leak is a common, cheap cause worth checking first.

High

Can I keep driving? Drive gently and get it looked at soon β€” a MAF fault can cause stalling, hesitation, or limp mode, which makes the car unpredictable in traffic.

Common symptoms

What you'll notice

Common causes

Most likely first

  1. Dirty or contaminated mass air flow sensor B
  2. Faulty MAF sensor B
  3. Unmetered intake air leak between the sensor and throttle body
  4. Open, shorted, or corroded wiring in the MAF circuit
  5. Clogged air filter disturbing airflow

How to diagnose & fix

Work through it in order

  1. Inspect the air filter and intake ducting; replace a dirty filter and reseal any loose or cracked ducting.
  2. Clean the MAF sensor element with dedicated MAF cleaner β€” never touch it or use other solvents.
  3. Check the MAF connector and wiring for opens, shorts, and corrosion.
  4. Compare MAF live data against expected airflow; replace the sensor if it reads implausibly. Clear and re-test.

FAQ

Quick answers

Is it safe to drive with P010A?+
Only cautiously. A faulty MAF can make the engine stall or drop into limp mode, so avoid heavy traffic and highways until it's fixed.
Can I just clear P010A?+
You can, but unless you clean or replace the sensor or fix the intake leak, the code and the driveability problems return.
