P010B

Mass or Volume Air Flow Sensor B Circuit Range/Performance

Fuel & air metering Generic OBD-II High

What it means

P010B means the second (B) mass air flow sensor is reporting an air-flow value that doesn't match what the ECM expects for current engine conditions. It's commonly a dirty or contaminated sensor, or unmetered air sneaking in through a leak in the intake. Because the ECM meters fuel from this signal, a bad reading can cause hesitation, stalling, or reduced power.

High

Can I keep driving? Driveable but expect symptoms β€” a bad air-flow signal can cause hesitation, stalling, or limp mode, so fix it before long trips.

Common symptoms

What you'll notice

Common causes

Most likely first

  1. Contaminated or dirty mass air flow sensor (the B/second sensor)
  2. Unmetered air leak β€” loose intake boot, cracked ducting, or vacuum leak
  3. Dirty or restricted air filter
  4. Faulty mass air flow sensor
  5. Open, shorted, or corroded wiring in the sensor circuit

How to diagnose & fix

Work through it in order

  1. Read freeze-frame data and inspect the air filter and intake ducting for leaks or loose clamps.
  2. Clean the MAF sensing element with dedicated MAF cleaner (never touch it).
  3. Compare the air-flow reading (g/s) on a scan tool against expected values at idle and revving.
  4. Inspect the sensor connector and wiring for damage or corrosion.
  5. Replace the mass air flow sensor if it reads out of spec after cleaning. Clear and re-test.

FAQ

Quick answers

Is it safe to drive with P010B?+
For short trips, usually β€” but a wrong air-flow signal can cause stalling or limp mode, so don't rely on it for a long drive until it's fixed.
Can I just clear P010B?+
It returns quickly if the sensor is dirty, faulty, or drawing unmetered air. Clean or repair the cause first.
