P009C

Fuel Pressure Relief Control Circuit Low

Fuel & air metering Generic OBD-II High

What it means

P009C means the ECM detected an abnormally low voltage on the control circuit for the fuel pressure relief valve β€” the actuator that manages pressure on a high-pressure (direct-injection or diesel) fuel system. It is an electrical circuit fault, usually wiring or the valve itself. Because it touches fuel-pressure control, it can lead to hard starting or stalling if left unrepaired.

High

Can I keep driving? Often driveable at first, but this is a high-pressure fuel-control fault that can lead to hard starting, stalling, or limp mode β€” have it checked promptly.

Common symptoms

What you'll notice

Common causes

Most likely first

  1. Wiring to the fuel pressure relief control valve shorted to ground or open (drives the circuit low)
  2. Faulty fuel pressure relief control valve or solenoid
  3. Loose, corroded, or poor connector/ground at the valve
  4. Faulty ECM/PCM driver (rare β€” rule out wiring first)

How to diagnose & fix

Work through it in order

  1. Read freeze-frame data and note any companion fuel-pressure codes.
  2. Inspect the relief-control valve connector and wiring for shorts to ground, chafing, or open circuits.
  3. Measure the control-circuit voltage and the valve's resistance against spec.
  4. Repair or replace damaged wiring/connector; replace the relief control valve if it fails testing.
  5. Only consider the ECM/PCM after wiring and the valve check out. Clear and re-test.

FAQ

Quick answers

Is it safe to drive with P009C?+
Sometimes short-term, but because it affects high-pressure fuel control it can cause hard starts, stalling, or limp mode without warning. Get it diagnosed soon.
Can I just clear P009C?+
It will return until the circuit fault is fixed, since the ECM keeps monitoring the relief-control circuit voltage.
