What it means
P0088 means fuel pressure in the rail is higher than the ECM's target. Too much pressure makes the engine run rich, so you may get hard starts, rough running, stalling, or black smoke, and injectors and seals are under extra stress. A stuck fuel pressure regulator or a blocked return line is the usual cause — verify pressure with a gauge first.
