P008A

Low Pressure Fuel System Pressure - Too Low

Fuel delivery Generic OBD-II High

What it means

P008A means the low-pressure side of the fuel system isn't reaching the pressure the engine needs. Starved of fuel, the engine can lose power, run lean, hesitate, stall, or fail to start. Because it can leave you stranded and stress the engine, it's worth diagnosing right away.

High

Can I keep driving? Drive as little as possible β€” low fuel pressure can cause power loss, stalling, and hard starting, and running lean can stress the engine.

Common symptoms

What you'll notice

Common causes

Most likely first

  1. Low fuel level or ran out of fuel before the code set
  2. Weak or failing fuel pump or fuel pump control
  3. Clogged fuel filter or restricted/kinked fuel line
  4. Faulty low-side fuel pressure sensor
  5. Wiring or connection problems at the fuel pump

How to diagnose & fix

Work through it in order

  1. Confirm there is adequate fuel in the tank.
  2. Attach a mechanical gauge to the fuel rail and compare actual pressure to the sensor's reported value.
  3. Test the fuel pump for proper power and ground at its harness; check for excessive resistance or loose connections.
  4. Inspect the fuel filter and lines for restriction, kinks, or damage.
  5. Replace the failed component β€” pump, filter, sensor, or wiring β€” then clear and re-test.
