P2464
Particulate Filter Differential Pressure Too Low Bank 2
Auxiliary emissions (diesel particulate filter)
Generic OBD-II
Low
What it means
P2464 sets when the pressure difference measured across the bank 2 diesel particulate filter is lower than expected. The ECM uses that pressure to judge how much soot the filter holds and when to regenerate it. A reading that's too low usually points to a leaking or disconnected sensor hose, a faulty pressure sensor, or a leak in the DPF itself β not an engine performance problem.
Low
Can I keep driving? Yes β the car drives normally, but the DPF pressure reading is implausibly low, so have it checked before it masks a real filter problem.
Common symptoms
What you'll notice
- Check-engine light on
- Usually no change in how the car drives
- Possible disruption to normal DPF regeneration cycles
- May fail an emissions/readiness test
Common causes
Most likely first
- Differential-pressure sensor reading low due to a hose that is disconnected, split, or blockedLikely
- Faulty DPF differential-pressure sensorCommon
- A leak or crack in the DPF or its exhaust plumbing on bank 2Common
- Sensor wiring open, shorted, or poorly connectedLess often
- A damaged/hollowed DPF substrate that no longer creates back-pressureLess often
How to diagnose & fix
Work through it in order
- Read freeze-frame data and note the reported differential pressure.
- Inspect both pressure-sensor hoses to the DPF for cracks, kinks, disconnection, or soot blockage.
- Check the DPF and exhaust joints on bank 2 for leaks that would bleed off pressure.
- Test the differential-pressure sensor and its wiring; compare readings to a known-good value.
- Replace the sensor or repair the plumbing as needed, clear the code, and re-test after a drive cycle.
FAQ
Quick answers
Is it safe to drive with P2464?+
Short-term, yes. But this sensor helps the ECM manage soot loading, so fix it promptly to keep DPF regeneration working correctly.
Can I just clear P2464?+
Clearing it won't help if a hose or sensor is at fault β the code returns. Find the cause first.
