What it means

P2269 means the water-in-fuel (WIF) sensor β€” usually mounted in the fuel filter or water separator on a diesel β€” has detected water in the fuel above the allowed level. Water doesn't lubricate like diesel and can corrode and damage the high-pressure injection pump and injectors, so it matters. The dash usually shows a "water in fuel" warning alongside the code.

  4. Replace the WIF sensor if it reports water when the separator is dry.
  5. Clear the code and confirm it stays off over a few drive cycles.
