What it means

P2210 means the PCM sees a low-voltage fault in the heater sense circuit of the bank 1, sensor 1 NOx sensor. The heater brings the sensor up to operating temperature so it can read exhaust NOx; when its sense circuit reads low, the sensor can't do its emissions job. It usually traces to wiring or a failed NOx sensor.

How to diagnose & fix

Work through it in order

  1. Read freeze-frame data and check for related NOx heater codes (P2209, P2211, P2212).
  2. Inspect the NOx sensor connector and heater wiring for damage, corrosion, and chafing.
  3. Check the heater sense circuit for a short-to-ground or open, and verify supply voltage and ground against spec.
  4. Clear the code and monitor whether the heater sense reading returns to range.
  5. If the circuit is good, replace the NOx sensor as specified (sensor and heater are one assembly).
