What it means

P2088 means the PCM detected low voltage (a short-to-ground or open) on the "A" camshaft position actuator control circuit for bank 1. This actuator is the variable-valve-timing oil control valve that adjusts cam timing. With the circuit faulted, the timing can't be adjusted, so the engine may idle rough or lose some power. It still starts and runs — this is not a no-start code.
