P080D
Upshift/Skip Shift Solenoid Control Circuit High
Transmission
Generic OBD-II
Low
What it means
P080D means the upshift (skip-shift, or CAGS) solenoid control circuit is reading high voltage β an open or a short to power. This solenoid forces a 1-to-4 upshift on some manual cars to save fuel; a circuit-high fault disables it and lights the check-engine lamp. It won't cause a no-start or affect normal driving β the car shifts as usual, just without the skip-shift feature.
Low
Can I keep driving? Affects only the skip-shift feature β the car drives normally; you may just lose the forced 1-4 upshift and see a warning light.
Common symptoms
What you'll notice
- Check-engine light on
- Skip-shift (forced 1-4 upshift) feature no longer works
- Possible skip-shift or related indicator lamp behavior
Common causes
Most likely first
- Open or short-to-voltage in the skip-shift solenoid wiring or connectorLikely
- Faulty skip-shift (upshift) solenoidCommon
- Aftermarket skip-shift eliminator installedCommon
- Blown fuse or faulty relay for the circuitLess often
- Powertrain/transmission control module faultLess often
How to diagnose & fix
Work through it in order
- Read freeze-frame data and confirm the circuit reads high.
- Check whether an aftermarket skip-shift bypass has been fitted.
- Inspect the solenoid wiring for an open or short to power, plus the connector and fuse.
- Measure the solenoid resistance against spec; replace if out of range.
- If wiring and solenoid are good, suspect the control module. Clear and re-test.
FAQ
Quick answers
Is it safe to drive with P080D?+
Yes. This code only disables the skip-shift fuel-economy feature; normal driving and shifting are unaffected. The main effect is the check-engine light.
Can I just clear P080D?+
It comes back while the circuit still reads high. Repair the open or short-to-voltage wiring or the solenoid β or remove the skip-shift bypass if one is fitted.
