P07C0

Input/Turbine Shaft Speed Sensor A Circuit High

Transmission / speed sensors Generic OBD-II Medium

What it means

P07C0 means the input/turbine shaft speed sensor signal is reading abnormally high β€” usually an open or a short to voltage in the circuit. That sensor tells the transmission control module how fast the transmission input is turning, which it needs to time shifts and torque-converter lockup. Without a valid reading, shifts can turn harsh or erratic and the transmission may enter limp mode. It does not stop the engine from starting.

Medium

Can I keep driving? Usually drivable, but expect harsh or wrong-timed shifts and possible limp mode β€” fix it to avoid added transmission wear.

Common symptoms

What you'll notice

Common causes

Most likely first

  1. Faulty input/turbine shaft speed sensor
  2. Wiring shorted to voltage or open in the sensor circuit
  3. Corroded or loose sensor connector
  4. Metal debris on the sensor tip or excessive air gap
  5. Internal wiring fault or failed transmission control module (TCM)

How to diagnose & fix

Work through it in order

  1. Read freeze-frame data and check for companion speed-sensor codes.
  2. Inspect the sensor connector and wiring for shorts-to-power or opens.
  3. Check the sensor air gap and clean any metal debris off the tip.
  4. Measure the sensor's signal against specification with a scan tool.
  5. Replace the sensor if out of spec; evaluate the TCM last. Clear and re-test.

FAQ

Quick answers

Is it safe to drive with P07C0?+
Usually yes for short trips, though shifts may be rough or the transmission may enter limp mode. It won't stop the car, but repair it to avoid added wear.
Can I just clear P07C0?+
You can, but it returns until the sensor or its wiring is fixed β€” the TCM needs a valid input-speed signal to time shifts.
