What it means
P0744 means the transmission control module saw an intermittent electrical fault in the circuit that locks the torque converter clutch. That clutch couples the engine to the transmission at cruising speed to cut slippage; when the signal drops out it can't stay locked, so engine rpm rises at highway speed and fuel economy drops. It won't stop the car from starting or moving.
