P000D

B Camshaft Position Slow Response Bank 2

Variable valve timing Generic OBD-II High

What it means

P000D means the "B" (typically exhaust) camshaft on bank 2 is changing timing too slowly when the engine control module commands the variable-valve-timing phaser to move. It's usually an oil-flow problem β€” low or dirty oil, low oil pressure, or a sticking oil-control valve β€” rather than a sensor fault. The engine may idle rough, lose a little power, and use more fuel.

High

Can I keep driving? Usually drivable short-term, but rough running and mistimed valves can worsen and hurt economy β€” fix soon, starting with oil level and condition.

Common symptoms

What you'll notice

Common causes

Most likely first

  1. Low or dirty engine oil / low oil pressure (most common)
  2. Sticking or clogged camshaft oil-control valve (OCV) solenoid
  3. Blocked VCT oil passages or dirty screen/filter
  4. Worn variable-cam-timing (VCT) phaser
  5. Wiring or connector fault at the cam solenoid
  6. Stretched timing chain (rare)

How to diagnose & fix

Work through it in order

  1. Check oil level and condition; change oil and filter with the correct grade first β€” this fixes many VVT response faults.
  2. Scan and record freeze-frame data.
  3. Remove, test, and clean the bank 2 camshaft oil-control valve.
  4. Check the solenoid's resistance and wiring.
  5. If it persists, inspect the VCT phaser and timing chain for wear. Clear and re-test.

FAQ

Quick answers

Is it safe to drive with P000D?+
For short trips usually, but the exhaust cam on bank 2 is responding slowly, which hurts smoothness and economy and can worsen β€” address it soon.
Can I just clear P000D?+
You can, but it returns unless the underlying oil, solenoid, or phaser issue is fixed. Try an oil and filter change with the correct grade first.
