U0415

Invalid Data Received From Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Control Module

Communication network (ABS / brakes) Generic OBD-II Medium

What it means

U0415 sets when a control module reads data from the ABS control module that is missing, out of range, or implausible. The usual effect is that ABS, traction, and stability control shut off as a precaution β€” your normal brakes still work, but the anti-lock and stability features are disabled until it's fixed.

Medium

Can I keep driving? Your normal (base) brakes still work, but ABS, traction, and stability control may be disabled β€” brake with extra care, especially on slippery roads.

Common symptoms

What you'll notice

Common causes

Most likely first

  1. Faulty ABS control module or its power/ground supply
  2. Corroded, loose, or damaged connectors and data-bus (CAN) wiring
  3. Low or unstable battery and charging-system voltage
  4. Software incompatibility after a module was replaced or updated
  5. An underlying wheel-speed sensor or ABS fault reported by the module

How to diagnose & fix

Work through it in order

  1. Scan all modules and record stored codes and freeze-frame data before clearing.
  2. Check battery and charging voltage β€” low or noisy voltage is a common cause of bus faults.
  3. Inspect connectors and wiring to the ABS control module and along the data bus.
  4. If a module was recently replaced or flashed, confirm the software is compatible.
  5. Run the manufacturer's pinpoint tests on the ABS module and its wheel-speed inputs; replace only if confirmed.
