P2663

B Rocker Arm Actuator Control Circuit Low Bank 2

Variable valve lift Generic OBD-II Medium

What it means

P2663 means the PCM detected low voltage (usually a short to ground) in the control circuit for the "B" rocker arm actuator on bank 2. This oil-pressure-operated valve switches the engine's valve lift, so a fault can cause a flat spot or reduced power at certain engine speeds. It is the bank-2 counterpart to P2653, an electrical circuit fault that will not prevent the engine from starting.

Medium

Can I keep driving? Drivable, but expect reduced power or rough running at certain engine speeds since the valve-lift actuator may not switch.

Common symptoms

What you'll notice

Common causes

Most likely first

  1. Short to ground or low voltage in the rocker-arm actuator (oil control valve) circuit on bank 2
  2. Failed rocker-arm oil control valve
  3. Corroded or loose connector at the valve or PCM
  4. Low or dirty oil affecting valve operation
  5. Faulty PCM driver (least likely)

How to diagnose & fix

Work through it in order

  1. Confirm the code and check for the matching bank-1 or open-circuit rocker-arm codes.
  2. Inspect the actuator connector and wiring on bank 2 for a short to ground or corrosion.
  3. Check engine oil level and condition, since these valves rely on clean oil pressure.
  4. Measure the oil control valve resistance and command it with a scan tool.
  5. Replace the oil control valve if it fails electrically; otherwise repair the wiring. Clear and re-test.

FAQ

Quick answers

Is it safe to drive with P2663?+
Short-term driving is usually fine, but you may notice weaker performance or roughness at certain rpm. Fix it before extended hard driving to keep the valvetrain working correctly.
Can I just clear P2663?+
It will return until the actuator circuit or oil control valve is repaired. Clearing does not restore the valve-lift function.
