What it means

P2232 means the signal wire of the bank 1, sensor 2 (downstream) oxygen sensor is shorting to its own heater circuit. That corrupts the sensor's reading, and since sensor 2 sits after the catalytic converter it's used mainly for catalyst monitoring. The usual cause is chafed wiring or a failed sensor. Drivability is rarely affected, but the emissions monitor won't pass until the short is repaired.

  4. Replace the downstream O2 sensor if the internal short can't be traced to the harness.
