P07A6
Transmission Friction Element C Performance/Stuck Off
Transmission / internal (clutch)
Generic OBD-II
Medium
What it means
P07A6 means friction element "C" β an internal clutch pack or band β isn't applying the way the transmission control module expects, or is stuck off. Without that element engaging, the transmission may slip, lose a gear, or shift harshly, and it can drop into limp mode to protect the internals.
Medium
Can I keep driving? Usually drivable but you may lose a gear or drop into limp mode, and slipping engagement wears the transmission β keep trips short and get it diagnosed soon.
Common symptoms
What you'll notice
- Slipping or delayed engagement of gears
- Harsh or rough shifting
- A clutch that slips or won't fully apply
- Transmission running hot
- Reduced drive or limp mode in the affected gears
Common causes
Most likely first
- Worn or damaged friction element (clutch pack) CLikely
- Faulty solenoid or valve failing to apply the elementCommon
- Low transmission fluid level reducing apply pressureCommon
- Wiring or sensor faults feeding bad data to the moduleLess often
- Internal mechanical wear or damage in the transmissionLess often
How to diagnose & fix
Work through it in order
- Check transmission fluid level and condition, and service it if low, dirty, or burnt.
- Inspect and test the solenoids controlling friction element C; clean or replace any that are sticking.
- Perform a fluid and filter change and inspect the pan for clutch material or metal debris.
- Inspect and repair any damaged wiring or connectors in the transmission harness.
- If apply pressure and controls are good, the friction element is worn or stuck and the transmission needs teardown. Clear and re-test.
FAQ
Quick answers
Is it safe to drive with P07A6?+
Short trips are usually fine, but if the element won't apply the transmission may lose a gear or enter limp mode, and slipping engagement adds wear β get it looked at soon.
Can I just clear P07A6?+
It will clear, but returns as soon as the module commands friction element C again unless the pressure, solenoid, or worn clutch is fixed.
