Transmission Friction Element G Slip Detected

Transmission Generic OBD-II High

What it means

P07A0 means the transmission control module has detected that one of the transmission's internal friction elements β€” a clutch pack or band β€” is slipping instead of holding. The engine still runs, but a slipping element generates a lot of heat and wears quickly, so it's one of the more serious transmission codes. Causes range from low or dirty fluid and low apply pressure to a worn clutch pack.

High

Can I keep driving? The car moves, but an internal clutch is slipping β€” that builds heat fast and can destroy the transmission, so drive as little as possible until it's fixed.

Common symptoms

What you'll notice

Common causes

Most likely first

  1. Low or contaminated transmission fluid
  2. Worn friction element (clutch pack or band) inside the transmission
  3. Faulty pressure control or shift solenoid feeding that element
  4. Sticking or worn valve body reducing apply pressure
  5. Wiring/sensor fault or failing transmission control module (TCM)

How to diagnose & fix

Work through it in order

  1. Check transmission fluid level and condition first β€” if low or dirty, service it with the specified fluid.
  2. Read freeze-frame data and scan for related pressure/solenoid codes.
  3. Inspect and replace the transmission filter if clogged.
  4. Test the pressure control and shift solenoids and inspect the valve body for low apply pressure.
  5. If pressure is correct, the friction element is likely worn and the transmission needs internal repair.

FAQ

Quick answers

Is it safe to drive with P07A0?+
No, not beyond getting it to a shop. A slipping clutch pack overheats the fluid and rapidly wears itself out β€” continued driving can turn a solenoid fix into a full rebuild.
Can I just clear P07A0?+
Clearing it won't stop the slip. It returns immediately, and ignoring it risks major transmission damage. Fix the fluid, pressure, or worn element behind it.
