P0781
1-2 Shift
Transmission
Generic OBD-II
Medium
What it means
P0781 means the transmission control module detected a problem with the shift from first to second gear β it didn't happen correctly or within the expected time. The engine still runs and the car drives, but the 1-2 shift may be harsh, delayed, or slipping, and the transmission may drop into limp mode. Low or dirty fluid, a faulty solenoid, or a sticking valve body are the usual causes.
Medium
Can I keep driving? The car will move, but the 1-2 upshift is faulty β expect harsh or delayed shifting or limp mode, and repair it soon to avoid further transmission wear.

FAQ
Quick answers
Is it safe to drive with P0781?+
Briefly and gently, yes. But a slipping or overheating transmission can quickly wear its clutches, so it's best to limit driving and get it diagnosed.
Can I just clear P0781?+
It returns as soon as the transmission tries the 1-2 shift again. The fluid, solenoid, valve body, or internal wear behind it has to be repaired.
