P0532

A/C Refrigerant Pressure Sensor A Circuit Low

HVAC / A/C control Generic OBD-II Low

What it means

P0532 means the ECM sees an abnormally low signal from the A/C refrigerant pressure sensor. This sensor reports system pressure so the ECM can control the compressor and cooling fans. It's usually a sensor or wiring fault, though a genuinely low refrigerant charge can also read low. The engine drives normally; the main effect is that the A/C may stop cooling until it's repaired.

Low

Can I keep driving? Yes β€” the engine runs and drives normally. The main effect is that the A/C may stop cooling or run poorly, since the ECM can't read refrigerant pressure.

Common symptoms

What you'll notice

Common causes

Most likely first

  1. Faulty A/C refrigerant pressure sensor
  2. Short to ground or open in the sensor signal wiring (low input)
  3. Corroded or damaged connector at the sensor
  4. Very low refrigerant charge reading as low pressure
  5. Faulty ECM/PCM (rare)

How to diagnose & fix

Work through it in order

  1. Read freeze-frame data to see the reported pressure when the code set.
  2. Inspect the A/C pressure sensor connector and wiring for shorts to ground, opens, and corrosion.
  3. Check the sensor's reference voltage and signal wire.
  4. Verify the refrigerant charge β€” a genuinely low charge can trigger a low reading.
  5. Repair wiring faults or replace the sensor. Clear the code and re-test A/C operation.

FAQ

Quick answers

Is it safe to drive with P0532?+
Yes β€” it doesn't affect engine safety or drivability. The A/C may not cool properly until it's fixed, but the car is fine to drive.
Can I just clear P0532?+
You can, but it returns until the pressure sensor, its wiring, or a low refrigerant charge is addressed.
