P0110
Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit Bank 1
Fuel & air metering
Generic OBD-II
Low
What it means
P0110 means the ECM has detected a fault in the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor circuit on bank 1. The IAT sensor reports how warm the incoming air is so the ECM can fine-tune the air/fuel mixture and spark timing. A fault here has only a minor effect β slightly off fueling and economy β and does not stop the engine from running or starting.
Low
Can I keep driving? Yes β an intake air temperature sensor fault won't strand you; the engine may run slightly rich or lean and economy can dip, but it's safe to drive while you get it fixed.
Common symptoms
What you'll notice
- Check-engine light on
- Minor drop in fuel economy
- Slight hesitation or rough running in some conditions
- Occasional hard starting in very cold or hot weather
Common causes
Most likely first
- Faulty intake air temperature (IAT) sensorLikely
- Open or shorted wiring in the IAT circuitCommon
- Corroded or loose sensor connectorCommon
- Contaminated sensor element (IAT is often built into the MAF)Less often
- Failed ECM/PCM (rare)Less often
How to diagnose & fix
Work through it in order
- Read the IAT value on a scan tool after a cold soak β it should read close to ambient and match the coolant temp on a cold engine.
- Inspect the sensor connector and wiring for damage, corrosion, or a loose pin.
- Back-probe the circuit for opens or shorts against spec.
- Replace the IAT sensor (or the MAF assembly if the sensor is integrated). Clear and re-test.
FAQ
Quick answers
Is it safe to drive with P0110?+
Yes. The intake air temp sensor only fine-tunes fueling, so the engine still runs. Expect at most slightly worse economy or a rough cold start until it's repaired.
Can I just clear P0110?+
It will return once the ECM rechecks the circuit and sees the same fault. Repair the sensor or wiring first.
