P0092

Fuel Pressure Regulator A Control Circuit High

Fuel delivery / pressure Generic OBD-II High

What it means

P0092 means the ECM detected high voltage in the control circuit for fuel pressure regulator A β€” the solenoid the computer uses to set fuel-rail pressure. A high reading usually points to a short to power or an open in that circuit. When the ECM can't properly command the regulator, fuel pressure can drift out of range, causing hard starting, rough running, or stalling.

High

Can I keep driving? Limited β€” if fuel pressure control is lost, the engine may run rough, be hard to start, or stall. It may still run, but diagnose it before driving far.

Common symptoms

What you'll notice

Common causes

Most likely first

  1. Short-to-power or open in the fuel pressure regulator control wiring (high voltage signal)
  2. Faulty fuel pressure regulator / control solenoid
  3. Corroded or loose connector at the regulator
  4. Faulty ECM/PCM driver (rare β€” check wiring and regulator first)

How to diagnose & fix

Work through it in order

  1. Read freeze-frame data and confirm the fault is current.
  2. Inspect the regulator's connector and control wiring for a short to power, an open, or corrosion.
  3. Measure the regulator solenoid's resistance and compare to spec.
  4. Verify the ECM is commanding the circuit and check the control-wire voltage.
  5. Repair the wiring or replace the regulator as indicated, then clear and re-test with a fuel-pressure gauge.

FAQ

Quick answers

Is it safe to drive with P0092?+
Not for long. Losing fuel-pressure control can cause hard starting, stalling, or a lean/rich condition. Have it diagnosed promptly to avoid being stranded.
Can I just clear P0092?+
It comes back once the ECM re-checks the regulator circuit. The wiring short/open or a failed regulator has to be repaired for the code to stay off.
