What it means

P0032 means the ECM has seen high voltage in the heater control circuit of the upstream oxygen sensor (bank 1, sensor 1). That heater warms the sensor quickly so it can read accurately soon after start-up. With the heater circuit faulty the engine still runs normally, but the car takes longer to enter closed-loop fueling and will not pass an emissions test until it is fixed.

  3. Measure the sensor's heater resistance; if the element is open or out of spec, replace the sensor.
  4. Consider the ECM driver only after the wiring, fuse and sensor test good. Clear and re-test.
